The sad history of Cleveland Browns season openers


The Browns did, in fact, drop another season opener, again at home, and again to the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was not a completely depressing affair, but it started with a prompt 3-and-out and blocked punt for a Steelers touchdown.

The Cleveland Browns open their 2017 season on Sunday at home against their rival from another, more competitive era, the Pittsburgh Steelers. If history is our guide, it will not go well for Hue Jackson’s group, which returns home for the Week 1 opener after three straight years starting the season on the road. Getting back home, however, should not matter much.

Thanks to Watt, Luke Kuechly and Khalil Mack over the past five seasons, Miller hasn’t been able to add this distinction to his Super Bowl MVP 50 honor. But you can bet he’s ready to find another gear under new defensive-minded coach Vance Jospeh, and 2017 should resemble his awesome, breakout 2012 season.

Bell, because of injury and suspension, has not to been able to duplicate the terrific 2014 season he had as a 22-year-old, second-year player. He’s still only 25, younger than David Johnson, and he’s out looking for bigger money after signing his franchise tag tender. He can both shoot toward 2,300 yards from scrimmage and set a career-high with high double-digit TDs, thanks to have more scoring opportunities in an even more explosive Pittsburgh offense.

Brady, like Belichick, hasn’t been in the mix for his biggest possible award since he won it in both 2007 and 2010. That needs to be corrected, stat. With what he can do to lead the Patriots Cheap Quality Soccer Jerseys to a Cheap Pirates Jerseys sixth ring at age 40, Brady will become the NFL’s oldest most valuable player, displacing 37-year-olds Rich Gannon (2002) and Peyton Manning (2013).
