Capitals clinch Presidents’ Trophy again: ‘It’s always nice to win something’


The Capitals are nothing if not consistent, and they’ll take it.

For a second consecutive season, the NHL’s regular season champion resides in Washington, D.C., as the Capitals clinched another Presidents’ Trophy with Wednesday’s 2-0 win over the Rangers. It’s the franchise’s third in the past eight seasons and, most importantly, ensures home-ice advantage through the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Crosby, a two-time Art Ross Trophy and two-time Hart Trophy winner, trails only Oilers sensation Connor McDavid in the NHL scoring race. He now boasts 64 points in 50 games this season (31 goals, 33 assists) compared to McDavid’s 66 in 58 (19 goals, 47 assists).

“I have worked for every owner the Kings have ever had and I appreciate that opportunity and their support as well as the support from AEG, FOX Sports West, Kings coaches and players, my broadcast partners, newspaper reporters, radio-TV announcers, the Kings fans and my family.

“I plan to broadcast two more games and then I hope to have some quality years and enjoyment in retirement.”

Miller, 78, began his broadcasting career at the University of Wisconsin after graduating from Iowa in 1960. After calling Badgers football and hockey games, he was hired by then team owner Jack Kent Cooke in 1973.

Miller’s last two games will be the final two regular-season games of the season, the home finale April 8 against the Blackhawks, which has been designated Bob Miller Appreciation Day Cheap Jerseys Paypal at Staples Center, and April 9 in Anaheim against the Ducks.
